Wat is Gitaar ?
De gitaar is een snaarinstrument dat wordt bespeeld door aan de snaren te tokkelen. De belangrijkste onderdelen van een gitaar zijn de body, de toets, de kop en de snaren. Gitaren zijn meestal gemaakt van hout of plastic. Hun snaren zijn gemaakt van staal of nylon.
De gitaarsnaren worden getokkeld met de vingers en vingernagels van de rechterhand (of linkerhand, voor linkshandige spelers), of een klein plectrum van dun plastic. Dit type plectrum wordt een "plectrum" of gitaarplectrum genoemd. De linkerhand houdt de hals van de gitaar vast terwijl de vingers de snaren plukken. Verschillende vingerposities op de toets maken verschillende noten.
Gitaarachtige tokkelinstrumenten worden al vele jaren gebruikt. In veel landen en in veel verschillende tijdsperioden zijn gitaren en andere tokkelinstrumenten erg populair geweest, omdat ze licht zijn om van de ene plaats naar de andere te dragen, ze zijn gemakkelijker te leren bespelen dan veel andere instrumenten. Gitaren worden voor veel soorten muziek gebruikt, van klassiek tot rock. De meeste populaire muziekstukken die sinds de jaren vijftig zijn geschreven, zijn met gitaren geschreven.
