Vetverlies is een vermindering van lichaamsvet. Het verminderen van lichaamsvet is wat de meeste mensen willen bereiken. Vetverlies is specifieker dan gewichtsverlies. We kunnen lichaamsvet verliezen door calorieën te verminderen, net als bij afvallen. Maar de kwaliteit van het voedsel dat we consumeren om vet te verliezen, is belangrijker. We moeten specifieker zijn over onze inname van macronutriënten, d.w.z. de inname van eiwitten, koolhydraten en vetten. Vetverlies kan niet alleen worden bereikt door middel van een dieet. Een goed weerstandsprogramma is belangrijk om spieren op te bouwen en te behouden. Een weerstandsprogramma bevat gewichten. Alleen omdat je gewichten opheft, zul je geen bodybuilder worden. Mensen worden alleen maar zwaarder en spiermassa op als ze een calorie-overschot hebben, en een groot calorie-overschot. Gewichtheffen betekent simpelweg dat u spieren vasthoudt. Hoe meer spieren we hebben, hoe meer calorieën ons lichaam zal verbranden.

Soorten lichaamsvet:
Er zijn verschillende soorten vet in het lichaam. We hebben essentieel lichaamsvet, waarvan we geloven of niet, we hebben het nodig. Essentieel lichaamsvet is het vet dat in het lichaam wordt aangetroffen en dat essentieel is voor de normale structuur en optimale functie van het lichaam. We hebben ook niet-essentieel lichaamsvet, dat is vet in het lichaam dat we niet nodig hebben. Dit is het vet dat is opgeslagen in vetweefsel. Het wordt ook wel bewaarvet genoemd. Niet-essentieel vet is het vet dat we willen verliezen tijdens vetverlies.
