Cupping is een alternatief medicijn waarbij een vacuüm wordt gecreëerd boven de huid van een patiënt. In traditionele Chinese medicijnbekers, gemaakt van glas, plastic of bamboe, worden ze op de huid van de patiënt geplaatst en vervolgens vacuüm gezogen.
De therapie wordt gebruikt voor wat in de oosterse geneeskunde bekend staat als 'stagnatie' (verlichten).
Het wordt gebruikt om ziekten zoals griep, bronchitis en kortademigheid te behandelen. Het heeft een enorm dieptewerking en is bijzonder effectief bij het bestrijden van pijn. Cupping wordt ook gebruikt om pijn in de nek, rug en schouder en andere spieren te behandelen. het helpt goed bij hoofdpijn, pijnlijke menstruatie, maag-darmklachten, zwakke spijsvertering, chronische verkoudheid en astma, hoesten en beginnende griep.
Vacussage kan ook dienen als aanvulling op cellulitis en andere afslankbehandelingen, aangezien de cups vocht en vet gemakkelijker uit de vetcellen verwijderen.
Na behandeling zijn er grote ronde kneuzingen zichtbaar op de plek waar de cups zijn verschenen.
