Omdat private equity (PE) directe investeringen met zich meebrengt - vaak om invloed of controle te krijgen over de activiteiten van een bedrijf - is een aanzienlijke kapitaalinvestering vereist, en dat is de reden waarom fondsen met grote portemonnee de sector domineren.
Het minimum vereiste kapitaal voor geaccrediteerde beleggers kan variëren, afhankelijk van het bedrijf en het fonds. Sommige fondsen hebben een minimale instapvereiste van $ 250.000, terwijl andere mogelijk miljoenen meer nodig hebben.
De onderliggende motivatie voor dergelijke toezeggingen is het streven naar een positief investeringsrendement (ROI). Partners bij private equity (PE) -firma's werven fondsen en beheren deze gelden om gunstige rendementen voor aandeelhouders op te leveren, doorgaans met een investeringshorizon van tussen de vier en zeven jaar.
