Wat is Poker ?
Poker is een van de vele kaartspellen waarin spelers wedden op welke hand het beste is volgens de regels van dat specifieke spel op een manier die vergelijkbaar is met deze ranglijsten. Vaak met een standaard kaartspel, variëren pokerspellen in kaartconfiguratie, het aantal kaarten dat wordt gespeeld, het aantal dat met de beeldzijde omhoog of omlaag wordt gedeeld en het aantal dat door alle spelers wordt gedeeld, maar ze hebben allemaal regels die betrekking hebben op een of meer inzetrondes.
Bij de meeste moderne pokerspellen begint de eerste inzetronde met een of meer van de spelers die een of andere vorm van een gedwongen inzet plaatsen (de blind of ante). Bij standaard poker zet elke speler in op de rang die hij denkt dat zijn hand waard is in vergelijking met de andere spelers. De actie verloopt dan met de klok mee, aangezien elke speler op zijn beurt de maximale vorige inzet moet matchen (of "callen"), of folden, waardoor het tot dusver ingezette bedrag en alle verdere betrokkenheid bij de hand verloren gaat. Een speler die overeenkomt met een weddenschap kan de weddenschap ook "verhogen" (verhogen). De inzetronde eindigt wanneer alle spelers de laatste inzet hebben gecalld of gefold. Als alle spelers behalve één in een willekeurige ronde folden, ontvangt de overgebleven speler de pot zonder dat hij zijn hand hoeft te onthullen. Als meer dan één speler in strijd blijft na de laatste inzetronde, vindt een showdown plaats waar de handen worden onthuld en de speler met de winnende hand de pot wint.
