Wat is KiCad ?
KiCad is een gratis softwarepakket voor elektronische ontwerpautomatisering (EDA). Het vergemakkelijkt het ontwerp van schema's voor elektronische schakelingen en hun conversie naar PCB-ontwerpen. KiCad is oorspronkelijk ontwikkeld door Jean-Pierre Charras. Het beschikt over een geïntegreerde omgeving voor het vastleggen van schema's en het ontwerpen van printplaten. Het pakket bevat tools om een stuklijst, illustraties, Gerber-bestanden en 3D-weergaven van de PCB en zijn componenten te maken.
De KiCad-suite bestaat uit vijf hoofdonderdelen:
- KiCad - de projectmanager.
- Eeschema - de schematische capture-editor.
- Pcbnew - het PCB-layoutprogramma. Het heeft ook een 3D-weergave.
- GerbView - de Gerber-kijker.
- Bitmap2Component - tool om afbeeldingen om te zetten in footprints voor PCB-artwork.
