Wat is Calisthenics ?

Calisthenics is een vorm van krachttraining die bestaat uit een verscheidenheid aan bewegingen waarbij grote spiergroepen worden getraind (grove motorische bewegingen), zoals rennen, staan, grijpen, duwen, enz. Deze oefeningen worden vaak ritmisch en met minimale uitrusting uitgevoerd, zoals lichaamsgewichtoefeningen. Ze zijn bedoeld om kracht, fitheid en flexibiliteit te vergroten door bewegingen zoals trekken, duwen, buigen, springen of slingeren, waarbij het lichaamsgewicht wordt gebruikt voor weerstand. Calisthenics kunnen de voordelen bieden van spier- en aerobe conditionering, naast het verbeteren van psychomotorische vaardigheden zoals balans, behendigheid en coördinatie.

Urban calisthenics is een vorm van straattraining; gymnastiekgroepen voeren oefeningsroutines uit in stedelijke gebieden. Individuen en groepen trainen om geavanceerde gymnastiekvaardigheden uit te voeren, zoals muscle-ups, hefbomen en verschillende freestyle-bewegingen zoals spins en flips.

Sportteams en militaire eenheden voeren vaak door leiders geleide groepsoefeningen uit als een vorm van gesynchroniseerde fysieke training (vaak inclusief een aangepaste "oproep en reactie" -routine) om de groepscohesie en discipline te vergroten. Calisthenics is ook populair als onderdeel van lichamelijke opvoeding op basisscholen en middelbare scholen over een groot deel van de wereld.
