Wat is een CAD-tekenaar?
Een CAD-tekenaar (ook wel technisch tekenaar of 3D-tekenaar) is iemand die met behulp van specialistische computerprogramma’s technische tekeningen maakt, bijvoorbeeld voor projecten in de bouw of de civiele techniek. Voorbeelden van programma’s waarvan CAD-tekenaars gebruikmaken zijn:

‘CAD’ staat voor Computer Aided Design, oftewel ‘ontwerpen met behulp van de computer’. Oorspronkelijk stonden de letters ‘CAD’ voor ‘computer aided drafting’, maar deze term is inmiddels minder gangbaar. De techniek van het computergestuurd tekenen wordt niet alleen toegepast in de bouw en de civiele techniek, maar in vele vakgebieden, waaronder architectuur, werktuigbouwkunde, elektrotechniek, archeologie, technisch beheer en industrieel ontwerp.
Wat doet een CAD-tekenaar?
De hoofdtaak van een CAD-tekenaar is het vervaardigen van technische (3D-)tekeningen met behulp van CAD-software. Daarnaast kunnen de volgende deeltaken tot zijn bezigheden behoren:
- Bedenken, maken en uitwerken van conceptontwerpen, detailtekeningen en constructietekeningen
- Controleren van tekeningen van toeleveranciers
- Voeren van overleg met projectleiders, engineers en andere betrokkenen over technische details
- Onderhouden van contacten met leveranciers, ingenieursbureaus, certificeringsinstanties en andere organisaties
- Verwerken en archiveren van tekeningen in het computersysteem
- Bieden van ondersteuning aan collega’s op het gebied van CAD-software
- Beheren van de configuratie van het CAD-programma voor alle gebruikers binnen de organisatie
- Uitvoeren van upgrades van de CAD-software
Waar werken CAD-tekenaars?
CAD-tekenaars zijn over het algemeen werkzaam bij een organisatie in de techniek of in de bouw. Afhankelijk van de discipline waarin ze werkzaam zijn (variërend van de woning- en utiliteitsbouw tot de civiele techniek en elektrotechniek) kunnen ze te maken hebben met de volgende collega’s: bouwkundig tekenaars, BIM-modelleurs, werktuigbouwkundigen, electrical engineers, aannemers, constructeurs en architecten.
