Wat is een barista?
Een barista is iemand die is gespecialiseerd in het bereiden en serveren van koffie, met name espresso en afgeleide dranken (cappuccino, latte macchiato, espresso macchiato, etc.). De term ‘barista’ komt uit het Italiaans en betekent letterlijk ‘barman’. Naast de bereidings- en serveertechnieken die een barista beheerst, dient deze ook te beschikken over kennis omtrent het productieproces van koffie, bijvoorbeeld wat betreft het branden van de koffiebonen en het verbouwen van koffieplanten.
Wat doet een barista?
De werkzaamheden van barista’s zijn over het algemeen als volgt:
- Bereiden van kwalitatief hoogwaardige koffie (onder meer: bonen malen, melk opschuinen en opschenken)
- Adviseren van klanten op het gebied van smaken en varianten
- Serveren van de bestelling
- Verrichten van kassawerkzaamheden
- Schoonhouden en opruimen van de werkplek
- Eventueel bijhouden van de voorraad
- Eventueel aansturen van ander bedienend personeel
Waar werken baristas?
Barista’s werken ofwel bij gespecialiseerde koffiebars, ofwel als koffiespecialist binnen een algemene horeca-gelegenheid (lunchroom, hotel, etc.). Bekende koffieketens die barista’s in dienst hebben zijn onder meer Starbucks, CoffeeCompany en Douwe Egbert Café. Collega’s met wie barista’s te maken hebben zijn bijvoorbeeld: medewerkers bediening ontbijtmedewerkers, caissières, barkeepers en koks.
Hoe word je barista?
