Een domeinnaam is het permanente adres van uw website op internet. Het is wat mensen in hun webbrowser typen om uw website te vinden. Themeisle.com is bijvoorbeeld de domeinnaam van deze website en u kunt deze zien in de adresbalk van deze pagina.

Wanneer u een domeinnaam voor uw website koopt, registreert en gebruikt, zullen gebruikers het veel gemakkelijker vinden om u te onthouden. Wanneer bezoekers uw domeinnaam invoeren in hun browser, stuurt hun computer een verzoek naar een cluster van servers genaamd het Domain Name System (DNS). Je hoeft niet echt te weten wat er hier achter de schermen gebeurt. Het enige dat u hoeft te weten, is dat de DNS vervolgens reageert met het IP-adres van de hostingserver van uw website, en zo kunnen mensen uw domeinnaam gebruiken om uw website te bereiken.

  • Een domeinnaam bestaat uit minimaal twee en maximaal 63 karakters.
  • Alle letters van a tot z, alle cijfers van 0 tot 9 en een koppelteken (-) zijn mogelijk.
  • Een domeinnaam mag niet bestaan ​​uit een koppelteken (-) op de derde en vierde positie tegelijk.
