You're half way through a 8 day "stretch". This isn't as relaxing as it sounds. I'm not talking about Yoga or anything enjoyable. I'm talking about working 8 days in a row without a break. To top it off, the days are blurring into one long hour and everyone around you is getting tired of you justifying your mood swings with "Sorry, I was Hangry" or a "I'm just tired".


This may not be exactly what you have gone through but I'm sure you can relate on some level. This was pretty much what I was going through when I was working 9 months of 8 day stretches. I was getting more stressed out and my life started to blur into one loooooooonnnnnngggggg week. I fell into a huge depression and had constant anxiety attacks which I would try to sleep away.

Before I knew it, I let my hobbies slide and my healthy habits die. I was now going to work and coming home to sleep and waking up to repeat the horrid cycle over and over again. My life felt like it was moving at such a speed that I couldn't keep up.  And as a result of sleeping so much and being so tired, I was trying to optimise everything in my life. Instead of looking at the cause of my lack of energy, I was trying to become hyper efficient to make up for my lack of energy.

I tried to replace my lack of mindfulness with the autopilot setting!

6 months later I woke up with a terrible feeling of loss. Where had the time gone? Where did the last few months go? I took a deep look at my life and how unbalanced it was. I started practising being more present and being more mindful of my actions, developing the pillars of this course and putting them into practice because ...

I didn't want to wake up in another 6 months wondering what the f*ck just happened...


I really defined what key aspects of slowing down I needed to focus on and I refined them down to 4 Core Pillars. These Pillars have changed my life. By focusing on them I have increased my quality of life by 10 fold. I'm actually enjoying my days/weeks/months opposed to just trying to defer any enjoyment of my life until later.

The path to self-mastery is more than just meditating, doing affirmations, stopping yourself from buying that take-out from McDonalds or completing a course to get some meaningless mindfulness certification.

It is learning how to be in control of your body, mind and spirit. It’s understanding yourself and questioning your belief systems and shifting them if necessary.

It’s an awareness and appreciation of the present moment when you realise that there has never been and will never be anyone like you again. It’s about letting go of really rigid standards you have for yourself and accepting that you have flaws.

It’s about treating yourself like you are someone you actually care about, it’s about treating yourself like someone you’re responsible for helping.

Reread that as many times as you need to.

This path isn’t optional but instead a necessity for everyone. You only get one life so you better make the most of it!
