Het zoeken naar een baan is het zoeken naar een job als gevolg van werkloosheid, gebrek aan werk, ontevredenheid met een huidige functie of een verlangen naar een betere baan.
Contact opnemen met zoveel mogelijk mensen is een zeer effectieve manier om een baan te vinden. Geschat wordt dat 50% of meer van alle banen wordt gevonden via netwerken.
Volgens een Jobvite-enquête van medio 2011 onder 800 werkgevers maken banenwervers en besluitvormers steeds vaker gebruik van online sociale netwerksites om informatie over sollicitanten te verzamelen. Evenzo beginnen werkzoekenden sociale netwerksites te gebruiken om hun vaardigheden te adverteren en cv's te posten. In 2014 heeft het gebruik van deze sociale medianetwerken ertoe geleid dat 1 op de 6 werkzoekenden een baan heeft gevonden.
Een studie van Microsoft suggereert dat werkzoekenden meer aandacht moeten gaan besteden aan wat werkgevers en recruiters willen in hun pre-interview informatieverzamelingsproces en in staat moeten zijn om die aspecten te leveren die wezenlijk verschillen van hun kwalificaties op cv, en specifiek voor de hebben een organisatiecultuur opgebouwd voor hun strategische resultaten.
