Wat is Characterdesign ?
Een personageontwerper (of personagekunstenaar) creëert het hele concept, de stijl en het artwork van een personage vanaf nul. Dit omvat vaak een diepgaande blik in de persoonlijkheid van het personage om een visueel idee te krijgen van de fysieke kenmerken van het personage.
Het kost veel creatieve energie om een heel personage vanaf nul te creëren (menselijk of anderszins).
Daarom is het proces van personageontwerp erg complex en is het vaak een van de meest gewilde carrières voor beginnende entertainmentartiesten.
Elke artiest heeft zijn eigen creatieve proces, dus er is geen "juiste manier" om een personage te creëren.
Maar meestal begint het personageontwerpproces met een briefing van het personage. Het personage kan een gemuteerde schildpad zijn met ninja-achtige vaardigheden, of gewoon iemand met een eenvoudige, alledaagse levensstijl.
Bij deze briefing is er vaak een reeks gesuggereerde eigenschappen, of ze nu fysiek of emotioneel zijn, en de personageontwerper gebruikt die notities om ideeën te miniaturen. Ruwe miniaturen helpen om de vele richtingen die de ontwerper zou kunnen inslaan, vorm te geven.
