Uitleg van het pictogramontwerp
Pictogramontwerpen zijn kleine afbeeldingen die een object of programma vertegenwoordigen. Pictogrammen zijn eenvoudige afbeeldingen die in context worden gebruikt om iets te communiceren. Ze zijn erg handig in toepassingen die vensters gebruiken, omdat je met een muisklik een heel venster kunt verkleinen tot een klein pictogram. Ze zijn gemakkelijk herkenbaar en gemakkelijk te onthouden. Pictogrammen zijn een belangrijk kenmerk van grafische gebruikersinterfaces. De oorsprong van zijn naam is interessant. Het komt van het Griekse εἰκόνα ("eikona"), wat "beeld" betekent, dat op zijn beurt is afgeleid van eikénai (een infinitief), wat betekent "vergelijkbaar zijn", "verschijnen". Het woord werd eerst gebruikt om een heilige voorstelling op een tafel aan te duiden. Digitale pictogrammen verschenen toen de eerste GUI-besturingssystemen uitkwamen, zoals Macintosh en Microsoft. Ze waren gekoppeld aan programma's of bestanden, die konden worden geopend door te dubbelklikken op het pictogram.
